Mission 3a: The Tharsis Job

A representative of the Olympian Republic has been poking around through sidechannels, looking for a mercenary group willing to take a contract on the downlow. The State of Tharsis (formerly the Democratic People’s Republic of Tharsis, until they decided they needed a better public image) is shipping a mecha prototype to a testing ground near the Republic’s border. They want someone to to make sure the prototype doesn’t make it there. A mole is standing by to make a hole in the sensor network covering the railway — you just have to punch through the train’s guards and take out the prototype. They’re offering a bonus for successful recovery… but since this isn’t an official contract, there’s nothing stopping you from stealing the prototype and taking the Olympians’ money anyways. They’re offering $3 million, with a 50% bonus for recovery of the prototype.

Buy Options

Fire Support: You know a guy who knows a guy who can rustle up two missile pods and a tug to drag them into position in orbit above the target area. Nothing like a little extra firepower. $250,000 for the ordnance and tow service.
Sabotage: We have a line on an anarchist group in the area. For a price, they’re willing to hit the tracks ahead of our arrival, cutting them off and leaving the train immobile. While the train can’t outrun us, turning a running gunfight into a stationary one might be to our advantage. $400,000 for explosives and enough drink to make a bunch of anarchists think this is a good idea.
EW Interdiction: The Olympians picked a good target zone — it’s remote, and any reinforcements will take a while to show up. However, a couple of well-placed EW Wasps will make sure the alarm doesn’t get out. Air assets could show up in a hurry, especially if the Tharsians scramble some fast movers, and ground units would not be far behind. $300,000 for the hardware. We’ll have to drag it in ourselves, though.

Memento:
Why not? should be entertaining. Let’s go FULL RETARD UP INS. ALL BUY OPTIONS. ALL OF THEM. (flexible on cutting the track, because a running battle would be neat)

Zereth:
No clearly we get the track option to cut off pursuit by other trains. GET EVERYTHING. AND ALSO GET ME A FARBOND SPELLBLADE SO I HAVE A GOOD RANGED OPTION AND IMPROVE MY MOBILITY. And we should probably look into some armor/ECM stuff.

Memento:
Yeah, uhh. I think armor would be a Good Thing To Have. seeing as I’m kinda squishy at the moment.
Also I want hunting beast hide armor. (at some point)

I am in favor of FULL RETARD ALL OPTIONS.

If you guys want to buy magic items post like, what they do and their cost in this wave so we can vote on the expense!

Zereth:
Farbond Spellbade Bastard Sword +1: Let me use it as a HEAVY Thrown(so I use my good Str to attack) 5/10 weapon, replacing my +2 prof/1d6 Javelin with a +3 prof +1 Expertise 1d10 thrown sword. Costs 520g, means my Throw and Stab ability might actually get used.

No specific plans on armor/neck slots other than “inherent bonuses haven’t kicked in there, maybe we could use some boosts”

UberJew:
I vote in favor of that

I vote for Full Retard all options! Overkill isn’t a word in Muller’s book, and working with these organizations might provide good resources in the future.

Kitfox88:
FULL RETARD IT IS. HELL YEAH.

also uh, maybe like, uh, uh, idk. i am decent on items atm. maybe a shield? lemme look

shield of deflection is resist 2 to ranged and area attacks for 520gp, staggering mace 520 for slide 2 when i weapon master strike with it, distance tratnyr for 15/30 thrown hell yeah 360 gp, badge of the berserker 520 and boots of adept charging 520 for no aoo during and shift 1 after charge :frog:

none of this is worth a fuck and the last combo is cheesy beyond cheese so but the trat would be hilarious if only for genuine heavy missile shock attacks hell yeah

Zereth:
Well nobody’s objecting to the Farbond and it’s pretty improtant for my build so I’m gonna throw it on me sheet, down another 520g

Ian Auger-Juul:
Friendly Assets:

Ten Thousand Righteous Fists
2x Town Guard (MV 171)
3x Poisonscale Needler (MV 187)

The Ten Thousand Righteous Fists have sent along a unit of Type-18 power armor, as well as a unit of anti-mechanized infantry.

Missile Platforms
The missile platforms in orbit grant all player characters the following encounter power:

Missile Bombardment – Encounter, Standard Action
Attack: Burst 1 in Range 10, 8 vs. Reflex
Hit: 2d6
9 to all targets in burst.
Special: The platforms have enough ammunition for four volleys. Once expended, the platforms will self-destruct.

Ghost Squadron

Having been informed of your itinerary, Ghost Squadron will launch and be on station 15 minutes before they make their attacks. Using the rough terrain north of Second Pyongyang, they can stay off the Tharsians’ air defense warning grid until you call them in, either to establish air superiority or conduct ground strikes. Be warned, if the Tharsians haven’t scrambled fast movers by the time you call in Ghost Squadron, they will once you do — and the Ghosts cannot both make airstrikes and deal with air targets simultaneously.

Ian Auger-Juul:
4 small crates acquired on Mission 3b!
Oct 10, 2011

Zereth:
Containing: 3 tons ration bars marked to be sent to the Jovian Trojans
125 gallons cheap whiskey
5x mecha repair kits (woundpatches)
and one Science Box full of Plot
Oct 10, 2011

Memento:
Can we try to pay the mercs in whiskey instead of real people money? (alternately, claim that whiskey is totally real people money)
Oct 10, 2011

Me:
Plot and Whiskey? Fuck Yeah. Of course you know there’s going to be a segment where we’re poor and forced to survive off those god awful ration bars.
Oct 10, 2011

Memento:
But of course. Although, I’ll be fine. Being a soulless robot has some upsides.
